RICARDO TOJA LANDALUCE
He was born in Gordexola, Bizkaia, on August 23, 1932. Have to his father's profession they moved to the Canary Islands when Toja was 6 years old.
His first painting teacher was Fernando Maidagan. Who showed him the paintings in the Bilbao Fine Arts Museum. He was part of the Bilbao Young Painting Group whose first exhibition was held in 1950 along with other painters such as Agustín Ibarrola and Javier Murga.
In 1964 the Council from Bizkaia gave him a pension to perfect his studies in Madrid. Later with the scholarship for artists from the Juan March Foundation he moved to Oslo (Norway) to continue his pictorial studies.
He stands out as an excellent landscaper with his peculiar colorful style. He painted numerous Olmeda landscapes. In his final stage he sold a lot gave away retouched and even erased work. He really liked to clarify and express himself in his works.
He came to Olmeda from the hand of Menchu Gal in 1968 and he settled until 1978. The year in which his wife died and he returned to his land in Plentzia. Municipality in which he died in 2012 and where his brushes still rest next to his unfinished triptych of the Gordexola Valley.
